ANTIQUES AND EATING

If you go into www.thediningroomshop.co.uk and then touch “Press” you can read the wonderful write-up in the April edition of House and Garden, which describes the multidude of skills Kate (Dyson) has acquired over the years and how she uses them.  It’s well worth reading and also browsing through her very interesting web site.

Three new shops have recently opened.

THE VELVET ROOM in White Hart lane is a West End hairdressing salon in the suburbs.  Sinead Kelly who is the proprietor and creative director is an international award winning stylist.  Her shop is stunningly impressive and the hairstyling is modern and creative.  But The velvet Room also offers wonderful indulgent beauty treatments too.

On Tuesdays only, at The Velvet Room, Julie Harper  gives massages.   Julie has 17 years training and experience and specialises in professional sports and injuries, rehabilitation after surgery, ante, labour and post natal, and stiff backs or those who just want to relax those muscles.  I tried Julie’s massage.  She knew on which side I carried my bag and that I’d been working long hours on the computer, just by massaging my back.  Amazing!  Afterwards I felt so flexible, it was an absolute delight (and it didn’t hurt a bit).

The second new venture is Victoria’s little village shop in Church Road.  This is cute on the outside and scrumptious on the inside, with beautiful pastries and cakes, many delivered daily from Sally Clarke’s  bakery in Kensington Church Street.   I guarantee that if you enter you will be tempted to buy.

Thirdly the China Express take-away in North Barnes (176 Castlenau) has re-opened as the NEW China Express, offering take-away Thai and Chinese.  They areopen 7 days a week and have many offers running at the moment.

Have you checked out your reviews on line recently? If  you haven’t already done it, try Googling your shop –  you may find some quite interesting reviews. I’ve had a look at reviews for a few shops –  some are fantastic and some not so good. Even more surprising is that many of the shops have no reviews at all. Often review sites like this are an opportunity for people to vent – so reviews tend to be more critical than praising by their very nature. But even if the reviewers’ comments are unjustified they are sitting out there in cyberspace to be read and noted by your prospective customers. It’s just a thought but it would be fantastic if when your customers are happy with your service if you could ask them to review your shop online. The key sites to look at are qype.co.uk, allinlondon.co.uk and trustedplaces.com.

Kate Dyson at the Dining Room shop in White Hart Lane is flying the flag for Barnes with a plethora of media appearances. Her shop  appeared last week on ITV’s daytime programme House Gift and is also due to appear on another afternoon antiques show in the next few weeks. As if all this coverage wasn’t enough The Dining Room shop is also going to feature in a double page spread article in the April edition of  House & Gardens. All of this is brilliant news for Barnes as hopefully it will drive trade to the rest of the shops.
